Bibliotherapy and Sunshine Strategies
Mrs. Haslar’s guidance lessons build strong kids through music, books and social skills practice. “Sunshine” is our metaphor for good feelings, the way our hearts feel when we are acting capably, cooperatively and with care. But our students know that capable kids don’t always feel “sunny,” and throughout the year we learn many strategies for getting our “sunshine” back when we are feeling sad, angry, grumpy or any of the other more challenging feelings in life. Reslient kids know that feelings don’t last forever: they can change when we change what we do. The songs we learn throughout the year reinforce this idea by increasing our repertoire of positive responses to difficult events. (See “Songs for Strong Kids.”)
